  • Return to exercise post birth

You can find these videos here.

We also have a virtual postnatal advice class that covers advice for Mums from 0-3 months postnatal.

Postnatal Physiotherapy

Pelvic Health physiotherapists offer specialised care to women who are experiencing issues during pregnancy or postpartum. They accept referrals from GPs, Public Health Nurses, Consultants, and midwives up to 6 weeks postpartum for women experiencing back or pelvic girdle pain, tailbone pain (coccydynia), carpel tunnel syndrome or DRAM (Diastasis Recti Abdoninis). Due to our limited resources, we cannot accept referrals for these after this period.

Our physiotherapists also offer a postnatal service for women who are more than six weeks postnatal and experiencing any of the following issues:

  • Leaking urine when you laugh/cough/jump/walk/run/lift your baby
  • Difficulty controlling the urge to pass urine
  • Leaking before you can make it to the toilet
  • Sensation of pressure/vaginal bulge or heaviness
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Difficulty controlling wind
  • Difficulty controlling the urge to pass a bowel motion
  • Leaking from your back passage before you can make it to the toilet, or you have soiling of your underwear
  • Persistent pain emptying your bowels
  • Pelvic or perineal pain
  • Pain during or after sexual intercourse
  • Tailbone pain (coccydynia)

Your GP or public health nurse can refer you up to 2 years postpartum; following this period, your GP will need to refer you to a gynaecology Consultant at CUMH.
