Clinics are held on Ward 2 South at CUMH and is staffed by all members of the pregnancy loss team. The clinic is also attended by a specialist registrar (senior doctor in training), and as we are a teaching hospital your permission may also be asked for a student midwife or medical student to be present at your visit.

At the clinic, we take a medical history and ask about the nature of the pregnancy loss experienced.  A number of investigations, such as blood tests or ultrasound scans, may be suggested, and plans for future pregnancy are discussed, with a follow-up clinic visit sometimes required. Ongoing support from the team is provided if required.

Women are welcome to bring their partner or another support person to the clinic.

Referral to the Pregnancy Loss Clinic
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • Second trimester miscarriage
  • Stillbirth or neonatal death

Referrals are welcome for other types of early or late pregnancy loss cases. All letters and/or referrals are reviewed by the team to decide the appropriate management. Unfortunately at present, the clinic is not accepting referrals from outside CUMH.
